It might be tempting to munch on chips and soda when you’re tired and hungry – consider that it takes 18 hours (more or less) for your body to digest and eliminate one meal! So imagine three meals and two snacks a day – your digestive system works nonstop!

First timers or not, here are some tips and tricks to ensure you get what you’re paying for – so we customized our Greens, Citrus and Root Skinnies – so you can choose what’s best for you – after all, it is you who gulps for your body.
Before Your Skinny Cleanse →
Much like any other cleanse or diet, you gotta prepare, prepare, prepare.
You’ll want to start weaning of your usual indulgences and make a couple of adjustments a couple of days before you start your cleanse – don’t stress, it’s actually pretty easy and your body will surely love you back for doing so.
Your body deserves a break! Think of it as a pre- cleanse phase from blah to best body ever vacay.
Most of us tend to lax about our daily water intake. Getting enough H2O in your system is an important component to a successful cleanse. Make sure to start your day with a warm cup of tea or water with lemon and drink at least 2 L of water throughout the day. Say goodbye to caffeinated, alcoholic and energizing drinks.
A cleanse means changing your normal eating routine –it is ideal to make a couple of adjustments three days prior your cleanse date.
- Whole foods
- Skip red meat and poultry, steamed fish is OK
- Avoid refined starches like bread, white rice and pasta
- Reduce dairy, sugar, alcohol intake
So what can you eat?
If cutting out meat is too much, there’s always fish, delish salads and veggies to choose from.
The day before your cleanse, transition into soup and steamed/raw veggies.
Here is our suggested meal plan:
3 Days before – If you love meat, slowly transition now into lightly steamed or poached fish, with veggies and a salad of your choice! Yum ;)
2 Days before - Green salads should be your best friend. If you’re craving for more, you may consume a cup of plain brown rice or sweet potato.
1 Day before – Raw/lightly steamed vegetables like spinach, broccoli; try and avoid the more starchy veggies like carrots, beets, squash etc. You may also have a raw green leafy salad with some vegetables.
During The Skinny Cleanse →
As you’ve started out your cleanse, your body is beginning to reap all the benefits of juicing.
Keep these simple notes in mind to help your body stay in its best state:
- Keep drinking at least eight glasses of water per day!
- Having trouble eliminating? Try a herbal laxative teas available in your local drugstore/grocery.
- Ease up on your usual gym routine.
- Try an infrared sauna, which will not only help you sweat, but it will surely relax you, too!
- Consider a massage or reflexology treatment.
- Take a daily probiotic to help your intestines repopulate the good flora you need, and to help you get balanced.
Your skin is your largest organ, and provides the most efficient and direct exit route for anything that needs to be "evacuated”. Exfoliation is key! Dry skin brushing before a shower or before exercising will open up those eliminatory pores.
* Exercise and sweat; remember that after exercising, you should shower as soon as possible. Sweat is a wonderful release, but only if it's washed off soon afterwards. If not, your skin reabsorbs it!
* A sauna or steam room is another trick to speed up any detox. Couple that with a series of hot/cold showers and you’ll feel like a new person. A hot bath works well too.
* Get a massage; if your masseuse is made aware that you’re cleansing and gently and slowly massages the liver, it could possibly DOUBLE the effects of your cleanse! Applying physical manipulation to the liver will assist in its detox.
Feeling uncomfortable? Don’t stress on it! Remember, while your digestive system is getting a lighter load, your body is adjusting to the clean nutrients you’re putting in it, and it’s simultaneously ridding itself of all the junk you just don’t need. A lot is going on, and sometimes that can feel a little overwhelming!
Still hungry? Try drinking some veggie broth. And if you really need to get some food in you, have a few slices of apples or cucumber.
Before you even ask the question - let's just go through the list and remain calm.

Yay! You made it! You deserve a pat in the back. Now let’s check out what you need to do in order to continue enjoying your juice cleanse benefits.
The more you’re able to keep your system together, the better off you’ll be – and the best way to do that is by breaking your cleanse with some small meals that incorporate solids and liquids.
- Day 1:
Breakfast: Fresh fruit or raw veggie salad
Lunch: Fruit/Vegetable smoothie
Dinner: Steamed vegetables, raw vegetable salad (dressing: flax oil or olive oil with lemon)
- Day 2:
Breakfast: Fruit salad, smoothie or vegetable juice
Lunch: Raw salad, one type of steamed vegetable. (Try some goat cheese with it!)
Dinner: Raw salad, steamed vegetables, small amount of starch such as whole grains (brown rice or quinoa) or sweet potato, legumes.
- Day 3:
Stick to anything listed above, plus the pre-cleanse diet.
After day three, you can start reintroducing meat and dairy products if you want – but take it slow! Your system needs time to adjust. To make things a little easier, try steamed fish in place of beef, pork and chicken, and goat’s milk products in place of cow’s (at least in the beginning).
The idea is to break the Skinny Cleanse primarily with fruit (day one), then add salads and steamed veggies (day two), legumes (day three), from there you may begin incorporating whatever else it is that you normally eat leaving meat and dairy last to come on board.
Breaking the Cleanse Sample Menu:
Day 1 – A few pieces of fruit spread out through the day, or some fresh squeezed non-pasteurized juice (green/citrus/fruit). If you wish to drink some freshly squeezed juice, be sure to dilute it with some water.
Day 2 - Raw or lightly steamed vegetables, e.g. spinach, broccoli, try to avoid the more starchy veggies like carrots, beets, squash etc. You may also have a raw green leafy salad with some vegetables.
Day 3 – Green salads should be your staple at this point. If you’re craving some more sustenance, you may choose plain brown rice (a small portion), or a yam or sweet potato.
Day 4 – If you eat meat, you may incorporate some now - lightly steamed or poached fish, with veggies and a salad of course!
Day 5 – Other more “dense” foods are now able to gradually make a comeback to your diet.
